ok ive asked a question similar to this, and it was answered basically that hypnosis cant "make",someone do something,it can only "suggest".so i must ask, when you see a stage hypnotist tell someone to walk around and act like a chicken, are they indeed hypnotized or is this a hoax.which brings this question, lets say someone has quit smoking,or say stopped eating twinkies, but they still have a desire for these things could a good hypnotist actually reverse their mind and increase their desire to the point that when they are done that person is going to want to smoke,or greatly desire to eat a twinkie because they still subconsiously have a desire.i know this seems counter to what most hypnotist do,and thats to decrease bad habits.those are just metaphoric, hypothetical examples.heres the main thought i want answered.what if the wife, used to enjoy an adult lifestyle that included her sleeping with other men, which she enjoyed.she has stopped doing this, however now her sexual desire has decreased significantly, and surprisingly the only time she is truly fully in desire,is when i make up stories about her having sex still with other men.she says she doesnt want to bring it up or that just concentrate on us,but when i do hardly any desire on her part.but when i tell her the stories, she is fully excited.so it seems to me that she still subconsiously desires this, physically her body lets me know she still desires this.but her mind has to be reversed toward her desire.is that possible? |

Yes, it's possible. Let's use imagined twinkie craving as an example.
Say a person experiences cravings for twinkies. And the person would experience the craving at different times. In many situations, the craving will have little resistance and they will act upon it = buy and eat twinkies.
Now, say that twinkie craving person was just diagnosed with a fatal heart disease and the doctor says, "if you stop eating twinkies right now, you will live"
Now, the person has a belief/behavior that conflicts with the twinkie craving behavior. And, if the new behavior (fear of death) is stronger than the twinkie craving, then the craving will be 'muted'. The craving is still there, just being hidden by the new fear.
If the next day the doc says "Hey, sorry about the scare, but our test was wrong, you're not going to die yet". That person would be in the car on the way to pick up more twinkies quite quickly.
The twinkie craving no longer has a conflicting belief.
It's like an emotional balancing act. Behaviors are not only on or off. A behavior can be active, but a conflicting response can override it.
The situation you describe with your wife is more complex. There will tend to be multiple behavioral aspects involved.
By the way, it would be easier to read your post if you used a double space after each sentence.

thank you for your response.i think i somewhat understand the answer.however to just clarify.if she was to visit a hypnotist, and be put in trance, would the hypnotist have to ask or find out what the block to this particular desire/behavior is and see if it can be unblocked, or could it simply be that the hypnotist could simply make strong suggestion that its "ok" to continue that desire/behavior and if the desire is still subconsious or there it may come about? |

I practice analytical hypnosis.. In my office, I've found it more reliable than ericksonian, nlp, or other suggestion/metaphor hypnosis methods. Not all hypnotists practice that way. So, my answer is relevant to the way I practice....
An undirected affect bridge age regression would 'uncover' the block and allow it to be reduced and/or removed.
Making suggestions that it's "OK" would only work if the block is weaker than the suggestions.
The way you describe the issue, I believe her mind would reject the suggestions, at least in the long term, because the block is more powerful/dominant/stronger. |
