What're the benefits to to using hypnosis cd's,mp3's etc. as opposed to having a one on one session with a real live hypnotist?

Can the cd's have as much benefit as the sessions with an actual hypnotist?

Cds can't answer your questions- they can't design/match specifically to you your needs- they can't dig deeper into specific issues- that maybe getting in the way- CDs do have a good place- and that place if as a support platform after you have had a one on one- This is only related to classical hypnosis- yet on the other hand there are some very cool CDs that blend NLP- and Ericksonian hypnosis- and are very good in lot more ways-

It's best to do a one on one if you can- and to use the CDs as a back up resource-
and it also depends on what you are working on-

Hope this was helpful.

If it has consciousness it's already in a trance.

i did contact a hypnotist and he didn't give me a price quote because I wasn't down to the molecule specific about what exactly I was looking for help with. That's kind of the problem..I don't know exactly what the issue is but I do know where I'd like to end up.

would anyone be able to give a general estimate on one on one? and is it usually one session or more?

If your in the UK you will be looking from 85-200 plus If your IN the USA $150-$300 plus- if you anywhere else go with the UK price and then convert to the money you are using- that a very rough guide-

If it has consciousness it's already in a trance.

The use of CD's for self improvement through suggestion
programming may only have a temporary effect. For some issues (stop smoking, weight control etc.) the results amd benefits with tapes or CD's are often very good. For issues such as self confidence, the underlying causes can be very diverse. After all, confidence is simply an emotional investment in fixed beliefs about oneself and the world as we perceive it.
Some are confident that they are "born to lose" and even have the motto tattooed on their skin. Most have a removable tattoo in their mind and emotions. Permanent changes of deep-seated issues require an interaction of two persons; a skilled hypnotherapist and a client who has reached a point of readiness for change. An important component of the process is the relationship that develops between the client and the therapist. Why should anyone accept ideas from a therapist in the same way they accepted suggestions and directions
from their parents when they were impressionable children?
The answer lies in the developed relationship and the wisdom and skill of the therapist.

One-on-one sessions will always provide a higher return than a pre-recorded audio program. If you can afford the sessions you should go for it. If you need to find some Hypnotists in your area of the world - check out the Hypnosis Listings Database here:

Talk to a few of them (if there are more than one close to you) and go with the one who you "connect" with, even if it costs a bit more.

If you are a student or on a fixed income - you might explain and ask for a break on the price. I know many Therapists who have done this for people.

The amount of sessions will vary with what you are looking to accomplish.

Since all hypnosis is really self-hypnosis, it does not matter if it is live or memorex. What is important is commitment to the process, and internalizaton of the sugestions, and action to follow through.
That being said, the specificity of suggestions cannot be individualized in a mass market CD, and although most of the suggestions may be useful, individual needs do vary. I think for general issues, such as developing confidence, overcoming lost love, managing the physical symptoms of anxiety, a CD can be great.
But for deep rooted issues like sexual dysfunction vs. sexual performance or feeling of insecurity vs. personality disorder live sessions are always better.

You asked for the benefits of CDs, yet everybody mostly handed you the drawbacks. Despite obvious limitations, CDs also have some benefits:
  • They're less expensive

  • You can use them at your own time and pace, whenever you have free time, at home (or work?)
  • No need to share your probs with someone else

There are some courses who teach you how to create your own CDs, so that you can tailor them specifically to your problems

There is a common problem in making self-improvement CDs for oneself. The emotional subconscious mind does not give the authority to the suggestions that it gives to some other voice who is reputed to be effective.

CDs, Books etc are for people who are disciplined, who can plan their time well and follow the syllabus at a pace that's most suitable for their learning.

In seminars, you get to interact with other participants and the trainer and it helps to clarify your burning questions. Seminars are also structured so you don't have to plan when you are going to go through the material yourself.

You can always start from books and CDs (which are cheaper) and when you can afford it or when you feel that it's more beneficial, then go for workshops or seminars.

My preference is to have at least one or two one on one sessions with some new to hypnosis so as they are able to feel and understand how they are in hypnosis. After that learning period then CD or MP3 audios can be used for induction and exit as they work at developing their technique for self hypnosis. Pre-recorded also can work well with guided meditation and non-smoker or weight loss processes.

For me I use much self hypnosis yet when I have the opportunity to work with another hypnotist I am totally into it. The process of working with another is such a positive feeling, there are times when I just want to stay in hypnotic state for longer since it feels so comfortable.

The last hypnotist I got to work with was Betty Alice Erickson. Excellent journey and I learned some points from her. She also has a book out "Milton H. Erickson M.D. An American Healer" which is also excellent and informative about his family life and practice.
